Workers' lives could be changed, with your support!
- In 2005 , we provided 2358 consultations, benefiting over 20,000 workers
With years of hard work by our unions:
- The Housing Department started to include salary monitoring in the marking scheme for sub-contractor tenders since 2001.
- Salary for sub-contracted security guard of government properties was increased from $4989 in 2004 to $6359 in 2006.
- Three universities increased the salary of over 1000 sub-contracted cleaners and security guards from $4000 to $5600 in 2004 and 2005.
Last year, we continued to fight for just and lawful return for workers:
- 120 Disneyland cast members succeeded in their fight for monthly salary increase of $1000.
- 200 Ocean Park part-time workers were compensated for holiday pay. Total compensation is $1.6 million.
- 1200 electronic factory workers succeeded in asking the company to withdraw a new contract which changed the working hours from 8 hours to 12 hours.
- 240 escort workers got a salary increase of 2%, after negotiation through the union.
- 300 cleaners were compensated for arrear of wages and working on holidays, amounting to over $5 million.
- About 500 workers at cargo terminal were compensated for working onholidays, amounting to $10 million.
- An employer was brought to the court and fined $230,000 for discrimination against union activity.
- In 2005, our 5 retraining centres provided training to 11,600 trainees and employment consultations to 1,500 youth workers.
